Afghanistan Floods Claim 148 Lives Amid Rising Humanitarian Crisis

At least 148 people have died in Afghanistan since March 25 due to catastrophic flooding triggered by extreme weather, according to the National Disaster Management Authority. The agency reported 15 fatalities in the past 24 hours alone, with hundreds more injured or missing as of April 10, 2026.

Relentless heavy rains and flash floods have ravaged communities nationwide, destroying thousands of homes and submerging critical agricultural land. The disaster has displaced vulnerable populations and compounded economic hardships in regions already grappling with instability.

CGTN correspondent Zmaryalai Abasin documented the devastation in Logar Province, where entire villages have been swept away. Survivors face acute shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies as relief organizations scramble to deliver aid through damaged infrastructure.

Experts warn that climate patterns intensifying across South Asia could lead to more frequent extreme weather events. The floods have reignited discussions about regional disaster preparedness and long-term recovery strategies for Afghanistan’s agrarian economy.
