KMT Delegation Begins Landmark Mainland Visit Amid Cross-Strait Dialogue

KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, leading the party's first high-level delegation to the Chinese mainland in a decade. The week-long visit will include stops in Jiangsu Province, Shanghai, and Beijing, with discussions expected to focus on cross-strait economic cooperation and cultural exchanges.

This marks the first time since 2016 that a KMT chairperson has personally headed a mainland delegation. Analysts view the trip as a significant step in maintaining communication channels across the Taiwan Strait, particularly given current regional tensions.

"This visit demonstrates the KMT's continued commitment to peaceful dialogue," stated Shanghai-based political researcher Dr. Wang Lin during an interview. "Both sides appear keen to explore practical collaboration areas while navigating complex geopolitical realities."

The delegation's itinerary reportedly includes meetings with business leaders and policy advisors, with particular attention to emerging technologies and supply chain resilience. The visit concludes on Sunday, April 12.
