Dolby Labs Expands in China as Auto Innovators Drive Tech Growth

Global audio-visual leader Dolby Laboratories is accelerating its China strategy through groundbreaking partnerships with the country's new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers. The California-based firm recently inaugurated its first global flagship experience center in Shanghai, designed to showcase immersive sound technologies tailored for next-generation automotive applications.

Javier Foncillas, Dolby's Vice President, told media that Chinese automakers are pushing technological boundaries: 'Our partners in the Chinese mainland demonstrate unparalleled speed in adopting premium in-car experiences. They're not just following trends – they're defining them.' This collaboration comes as China's NEV sector continues to dominate global sales, accounting for 60% of worldwide electric vehicle production in 2025.

The Shanghai facility features prototype systems being tested with domestic automakers, including adaptive soundscapes that adjust to road conditions and passenger preferences. Industry analysts note this move positions Dolby to capitalize on China's $150 billion in-car entertainment market, projected to grow 25% annually through 2028.
