Beijing Debuts China’s First Pharmacy Robot in 2026

Beijing's healthcare sector entered a new era this week as China's inaugural pharmacy robot began dispensing non-prescription medications at a major hospital. The advanced system, operational since April 2026, uses AI-powered precision to process up to 3,000 daily prescriptions with 99.98% accuracy.

Developed through a collaboration between Tsinghua University engineers and municipal health authorities, the robot features real-time inventory tracking and multilingual prescription processing. Hospital Director Li Wei told KhabarAsia: "This innovation allows our pharmacists to focus on complex cases while ensuring swift service for routine needs."

The launch coincides with Beijing's broader push to integrate smart healthcare solutions across the Chinese mainland. Early adopters report 40% faster service times, particularly beneficial for elderly patients and working professionals collecting routine medications.

While currently limited to non-prescription drugs, health officials confirm plans to expand the system's capabilities to handle controlled substances by late 2027, pending regulatory approvals.
