Chinese President Xi Jinping conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Xiongan New Area on Monday, emphasizing the strategic importance of this ambitious urban development project in Hebei Province. The visit comes as the area enters a critical phase of construction, seven years after its establishment as a national-level new district.
During the tour, President Xi examined progress in the start-up zone's infrastructure development and engaged with staff at China Huaneng Group's Xiongan headquarters. The state-owned energy company has been instrumental in implementing green energy solutions for the smart city project. Xi later visited the newly operational Xiongan campus of Beijing No. 4 High School, a flagship educational institution relocated from the capital.
At a high-level symposium, Xi called for 'coordinated development across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region' and stressed the need for innovation-driven growth. 'Xiongan should become a model for high-quality urban development in the new era,' he stated, outlining priorities for advanced manufacturing clusters and digital economy ecosystems.
The inspection underscores China's commitment to balanced regional development, with Xiongan positioned to alleviate pressure on Beijing's core functions while creating new economic opportunities. Recent data shows over 3,000 high-tech enterprises have registered in the new area since 2023, attracting significant overseas investment from Asian and European partners.
