Volkswagen Doubles Down on China Strategy in 2026

Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume has reaffirmed China's pivotal role in the automaker's global strategy during an exclusive interview with CGTN at the China Development Forum 2026. This marks Blume's second visit to the Chinese mainland in March alone, with plans to return for April's Beijing Auto Show.

Describing China as a "training center" for innovation, Blume emphasized the "local for local" approach driving Volkswagen's electric vehicle development and supply chain optimization. "Success here creates our blueprint worldwide," he stated, highlighting partnerships with Chinese tech firms to accelerate smart mobility solutions.

The announcement comes as foreign automakers face intensified competition in the world's largest EV market. Analysts note Volkswagen's planned R&D expansion in Anhui province could position it to better meet demand for connected vehicles among Chinese millennials.

With the Beijing Auto Show approaching, industry watchers anticipate further details about Volkswagen's 2026 production targets and potential collaborations with battery manufacturers across the Yangtze River Delta region.
