China's second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, reached a critical milestone on March 20, 2026, as it was undocked at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. The vessel will now undergo quayside construction and system commissioning ahead of its first sea trials scheduled for late May.
This 341-meter-long ship represents a leap forward in the Chinese mainland's advanced manufacturing capabilities, with over 90% of its components sourced domestically. Industry analysts highlight its significance in strengthening China's position in the global cruise market, which has seen growing demand for premium maritime travel experiences since 2025.
The project aligns with broader economic strategies to boost high-value manufacturing and technological innovation. Once operational in early 2027, Adora Flora City is expected to create new opportunities in coastal tourism and maritime services across Asia.
