Amid rising regional tensions, the 24th Chinese Peacekeeping Force has successfully completed a critical unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance operation near the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters. The mission, conducted under high-risk conditions in March 2026, enabled safer patrol routes for multinational UN forces.
The Chinese contingent collaborated with Indonesian troops to secure perimeter areas around the camp, demonstrating cross-regional cooperation in peacekeeping efforts. “This operation directly supports UNIFIL’s mandate to stabilize southern Lebanon,” stated Senior Colonel Li Wei, commander of the Chinese engineering unit. The team utilized advanced detection equipment to identify and destroy over 50 explosive remnants from past conflicts.
