Uganda plans to deepen economic cooperation with China through green development and digital transformation initiatives following the 2026 Two Sessions, Ambassador Oliver Wonekha announced this week. The East African nation aims to capitalize on China's expanded zero-tariff policy for African exports, particularly for value-added agricultural products like coffee.
"China's commitment to high-standard opening up aligns perfectly with Uganda's industrialization priorities," Wonekha stated, emphasizing opportunities in renewable energy infrastructure and smart agriculture technologies. The partnership could help modernize Uganda's agricultural sector while addressing sustainable development challenges.
Analysts note this collaboration reflects growing South-South cooperation trends, with Chinese digital payment systems and e-commerce platforms potentially helping Ugandan producers access global markets more effectively.
