China’s Second Domestically-Built Cruise Ship Nears Completion

China's second domestically-built large cruise ship, the Adora Flora City, achieved a critical milestone this week as it completed water injection and floated smoothly from its dock. The vessel, a symbol of the Chinese mainland's growing prowess in advanced shipbuilding, will undergo seven days of launch operations followed by lifeboat safety tests and system inspections ahead of its planned official launch on March 20.

Industry observers highlight the project's significance in reducing reliance on foreign technology, with the 142,000-ton ship now entering final system debugging and interior decoration phases. Sea trials are scheduled to begin in May 2026, with delivery expected before year-end – positioning China to compete in the global luxury cruise market.

The Adora Flora City's development comes as Asian shipbuilders capture nearly 80% of global orders this year, according to recent industry reports. Its successful completion could create new opportunities for overseas investors in China's maritime supply chains while demonstrating technological self-reliance.
