Cross-Strait Youth Collaboration Fuels Shared Aspirations for Peace, Development

CPPCC member Xu Kewei emphasized the unifying power of cultural and economic exchanges between young people from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region during a high-profile address at Beijing's Great Hall of the People this week. As a standing committee member of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, Xu highlighted how cross-strait collaboration continues to shape Asia's evolving social and economic landscape.

"From fusion milk tea brands blending regional flavors to AI-driven manufacturing innovations, our youth are writing a new chapter of shared prosperity," Xu stated, referencing multiple success stories of Taiwan residents thriving on the mainland. The remarks came during a pivotal moment in cross-strait relations, with 2026 marking increased cultural preservation efforts.

Particular attention was given to Gezai Opera's resurgence – a national intangible heritage art form connecting Fujian Province and Taiwan. Young artists from both sides have reportedly developed digital platforms to amplify this traditional performance style, creating what Xu called "a living bridge of mutual understanding."

With over 80% of new cross-strait ventures in 2026 involving youth-led startups, analysts suggest such exchanges are reshaping regional economic dynamics. Xu concluded by reaffirming that sustained people-to-people engagement remains crucial for maintaining what he described as "the golden thread of our common future."
