China’s 2025 Procuratorate Report Highlights Rule of Law Milestones

China's Supreme People's Procuratorate released its 2025 annual work report this week, revealing significant progress in maintaining social stability while adapting to digital-age challenges. With 3.47 million cases handled nationwide last year, the data shows a 2.1% decrease in arrest rates compared to 2024, reflecting refined legal procedures and emphasis on proportional justice.

Key focus areas included enhanced protection for children and elderly populations through specialized prosecution units, and environmental protection cases increasing by 15% year-on-year. The report particularly highlights success in combating telecom and internet fraud, with over 120,000 cross-border fraud suspects prosecuted through international cooperation.

Procurator-General Li Qiang emphasized in the report: 'Our intensified efforts in cyberspace governance and ecological conservation demonstrate the legal system's responsiveness to contemporary challenges.' The findings come as multiple international organizations recognize China as one of the world's safest major economies, with violent crime rates continuing their decade-long downward trend.
