NPC deputy Zhou Qi has reaffirmed China's commitment to cross-strait unity during Monday's Deputies' Corridor event, denouncing 'Taiwan independence' narratives as historical betrayal. As president of Liaoning Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, Zhou emphasized that over 650,000 Taiwan compatriots sacrificed their lives resisting Japanese colonial rule, with nearly 50,000 joining mainland resistance efforts.
"These heroes proved our shared destiny across the Taiwan Strait," Zhou stated ahead of the fourth NPC session's second plenary meeting. "Any separatist attempts insult their legacy and threaten national unity."
The deputy called for continued adherence to the spirit forged during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. He urged cross-strait cooperation to seize development opportunities and achieve national rejuvenation, emphasizing shared cultural roots and collective interests.
Zhou's remarks come amid heightened focus on regional stability, with analysts noting increased overseas investor interest in cross-strait economic integration projects this year.
