China Boosts Agri-Tech Innovation to Strengthen Food Security in 2026

China's agricultural modernization efforts have reached new heights, with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun highlighting significant advancements in technology and food production stability during a recent interview at the National People's Congress session. These developments underscore the country's commitment to long-term food security amid global supply chain uncertainties.

Han emphasized that achievements under the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) laid the foundation for current progress, including a 64% agricultural science and technology contribution rate and 76.7% comprehensive mechanization across crop cultivation processes. "Full mechanization in major grain crop production ensures we maintain strategic food reserves," Han stated, addressing concerns about climate-related agricultural challenges.

With improved crop varieties now covering over 96% of farmland, analysts predict these innovations will help stabilize grain outputs through 2026. The advancements are particularly crucial as Asian markets increasingly rely on China's agricultural exports to meet regional food demand.
