China Advocates Equal Global Human Rights Standards at UN Council

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for universal adherence to international law during his address to the 61st UN Human Rights Council session this week. Speaking on February 23, Wang called for rejecting 'politicized approaches and double standards' in human rights discussions while reaffirming Beijing's commitment to multilateral cooperation.

'All nations must uphold sovereign equality and non-interference principles,' Wang stated, advocating for reforms to create 'a more balanced global human rights governance system.' His remarks come amid ongoing debates about aligning national policies with UN Sustainable Development Goals ahead of 2030 deadlines.

The address highlighted China's push for developing countries to have greater representation in international institutions. Analysts suggest this positions Beijing as a bridge between Global South priorities and established diplomatic frameworks.
