Shanghai’s Ice Sculpture Masterpiece: Crafting Crystal Horses for Lunar New Year

As Lunar New Year celebrations conclude across Asia, Shanghai's L+SNOW Indoor Skiing Theme Resort continues to draw crowds with its stunning herd of crystal-clear ice horses. Created by master carver Mi Yongjian and his team, these frozen sculptures represent a unique fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern entertainment.

The artistic process, completed just before Spring Festival festivities began in early February 2026, involves transforming three-ton ice blocks into detailed equine forms using electric saws, chisels, and hand planes. "Each sculpture requires precise temperature control and rapid execution," explains Mi, whose team worked in sub-zero conditions to complete the installation.

This winter attraction highlights China's growing indoor winter sports infrastructure while celebrating cultural heritage through temporary art. The sculptures remain on display through March 2026, offering visitors a rare opportunity to witness ephemeral frozen artistry in an urban setting.
