30 Panda Cubs Celebrate Lunar New Year with Conservation Milestone

Thirty giant panda cubs born in 2025 delighted audiences this week by making their first public appearance to send festive greetings ahead of the Lunar New Year. The cubs, housed at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, represent a significant achievement in wildlife preservation – their parent institutions successfully bred 45 cubs last year through enhanced collaborative efforts.

This year’s showcase underscores China’s leadership in panda conservation, with the two centers refining artificial breeding techniques and habitat management strategies. "Our joint programs demonstrate how science-based approaches can reverse biodiversity challenges," said Dr. Li Wei, a senior researcher at the Sichuan facility.

As global wild panda populations continue to stabilize – aided by decades of conservation work – these cubs symbolize renewed hope during the Lunar New Year period. Their appearance also highlights the Chinese mainland’s growing emphasis on ecological civilization, a key national development priority.
