Yiwu’s Lunar New Year Exports Gallop Into Global Markets

As the 2026 Lunar New Year approaches on February 17, Yiwu's sprawling commodity markets are buzzing with activity. Known as China's small goods capital, this eastern city is shipping horse-themed decorations and crimson envelopes worldwide, with U.S. demand showing particular strength this season.

Local manufacturers report a 40% increase in overseas orders compared to 2025, driven by innovative designs blending traditional Chinese motifs with Western aesthetic elements. "Our metallic horse figurines with modular components allow buyers to create custom displays," explains Chen Wei, a third-generation lantern maker.

In San Francisco's Chinatown, retailers like Mei Ling's Gift Emporium are already showcasing Yiwu-sourced products. "The LED-lit paper horses are this year's surprise hit," says buyer David Nguyen. "They appeal to both Asian diaspora communities and mainstream customers seeking unique holiday decor."

This cross-cultural commerce surge comes as Yiwu strengthens its digital trade platforms, enabling real-time customization for international clients. Analysts note the trend reflects growing global appetite for culturally-infused consumer goods, with the Asia-Pacific festive products market projected to reach $28 billion by 2028.
