Asia’s Ski Resorts Thrive as Winter Sports Surge in 2026

From the snow-capped mountains of the Chinese mainland to Japan's powder-rich Hokkaido slopes, Asia's winter sports industry is experiencing unprecedented growth this February. Recent data shows a 34% year-on-year increase in ski tourism across major Asian destinations, with resorts investing $2.8 billion in infrastructure upgrades to accommodate rising demand.

Zhangjiakou, host of the 2022 Winter Olympics, continues to attract international athletes for training while welcoming recreational skiers through new family-friendly programs. In South Korea, the Alpensia Resort reports record bookings from overseas investors eyeing winter sports ventures.

"This season marks a turning point for sustainable winter tourism," says Dr. Li Wei, sports economist at Peking University. "Modern snowmaking technologies allow resorts from India's Gulmarg to Iran's Dizin to extend their seasons while reducing environmental impact."

Cultural integration remains key – Japanese resorts now offer traditional ryokan stays with ski packages, while Kazakhstan's Shymbulak combines alpine adventures with nomadic heritage experiences. Cross-strait travel sees renewed interest, with residents of Taiwan exploring new direct flights to mainland ski destinations.
