Diplomatic Envoys Express Optimism for 2026 at China’s Foreign Ministry Reception

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs set a collaborative tone for the year ahead during its annual New Year reception in Beijing on Thursday, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighting strengthened global partnerships. The event gathered over 200 diplomats from WTO members and APEC economies, alongside representatives from international organizations.

Wang Yi, speaking as both foreign minister and a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, emphasized China's commitment to 'building bridges through dialogue' in 2026. He specifically acknowledged efforts by overseas investors and businesses in fostering cross-border innovation, while reaffirming China's role in addressing global challenges through multilateral frameworks.

Several envoys from ASEAN members and the DPRK expressed particular interest in deepening economic cooperation, with one Southeast Asian diplomat noting 'renewed momentum' in regional supply chain integration. European representatives highlighted potential collaborations in green energy transition – a priority area for China this year.

The reception concluded with consensus on maintaining open communication channels, particularly regarding developments in the Taiwan Strait. Wang reiterated China's position on peaceful development while welcoming 'constructive international engagement' in cross-strait matters.
