Newly released videos from January 13, 2026, show ICU nurse Alex Pretti in a heated confrontation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers during an immigration protest in Minneapolis, 11 days before his fatal shooting by agents. The footage, verified by sources close to the investigation, captures Pretti kicking a federal vehicle’s taillight before being tackled by officers.
While a handgun is visible in Pretti’s waistband during the altercation, he does not attempt to reach for it. The videos have intensified scrutiny of the January 24 shooting, with Pretti’s attorney Steve Schleicher arguing the prior incident does not justify lethal force. Homeland Security Investigations is currently reviewing the footage to determine if agents involved in the earlier clash were present during the fatal encounter.
The release has sparked renewed calls for transparency from advocacy groups and lawmakers, highlighting tensions between law enforcement protocols and civil liberties in immigration-related operations.
