China Reaffirms Climate Commitment Amid Global Dialogue

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized China's proactive role in addressing climate change during a press conference on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Responding to recent remarks about wind turbine production, Guo stated, "China's efforts to combat climate challenges are globally recognized, and we remain committed to collaborating with all nations to build a sustainable future."

The comments come as the Chinese mainland accelerates its transition to renewable energy, with wind power installations projected to grow by 15% this year. Analysts note that China currently accounts for over 40% of global wind turbine manufacturing, a sector attracting significant overseas investment.

Guo highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the Green Silk Road partnership, which has funded clean energy projects in 17 Asian countries since 2023. "Climate action requires collective responsibility," he added, referencing China's pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Business leaders and environmental groups have welcomed these developments, though some experts urge faster implementation of emission-reduction policies. The dialogue occurs ahead of February's APEC Climate Working Group meeting, where members will discuss regional cooperation strategies.
