China's Global Governance Initiative, first proposed in September 2025, has now garnered support from over 150 countries, according to a recent announcement by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong. The initiative, framed as a response to mounting global challenges such as climate change and economic instability, aims to reform multilateral frameworks through what Beijing describes as "true multilateralism."
Sun emphasized China's role as a permanent UN Security Council member in advancing equitable global governance systems. "In 2026, we remain committed to transforming this initiative from consensus to action," he stated, highlighting plans for strengthened international cooperation mechanisms. The initiative's rapid adoption reflects growing alignment with China's vision for addressing transnational issues through institutional reforms.
