Hainan Free Port Attracts 60% Surge in Foreign Visitors

Hainan's free trade port has reported a 60% year-on-year increase in foreign visitor arrivals, surpassing 70,000 visits in the first month of its island-wide special customs operation. Over 90% of travelers entered visa-free under streamlined policies designed to boost international engagement.

The growth follows expanded air connectivity, with international routes increasing from 70 to 92 over the past year. A landmark seventh-freedom flight connecting Prague directly to Sanya – China's first such arrangement – has significantly enhanced access for European travelers.

Analysts attribute the surge to Hainan's strategic positioning as a testing ground for trade liberalization. "This demonstrates global confidence in China's economic policies," stated a Hainan tourism official, speaking anonymously due to protocol restrictions.

With infrastructure upgrades planned through 2026, the tropical island aims to solidify its status as Asia's premier duty-free shopping destination and a gateway for cross-border investment.
