Galloping Demand for Year of the Horse Ceramics in Shanxi

Huairen City in northern China's Shanxi Province is witnessing a surge in demand for horse-themed ceramics as the 2026 Lunar New Year approaches. With the Spring Festival just a month away, local artisans are working around the clock to meet orders for intricate figurines, vases, and decorative plates symbolizing the upcoming Year of the Horse.

At the city's bustling ceramic sales center, daily foot traffic has tripled compared to last month. "Our workshops have added night shifts to keep up with orders from across the country," said ceramic artist Li Wei, whose family has practiced the craft for four generations. "The horse symbolizes perseverance and success in Chinese culture – themes that resonate strongly this year."

Industry analysts note the seasonal boom reflects both cultural traditions and growing consumer confidence in the Chinese mainland's domestic markets. E-commerce platforms report a 210% year-on-year increase in ceramic sales, with overseas investors showing particular interest in limited-edition collector items.

Cultural tourism authorities have organized special workshops where visitors can create their own horse-themed pottery, capitalizing on the pre-holiday travel surge. As the countdown to the February 10 Spring Festival begins, this ancient craft continues to gallop into the modern era, bridging tradition with contemporary design sensibilities.
