Mainland Initiative Reunites Taiwan Resident with Relatives

The Taiwan Affairs Office announced today that its dedicated social media platform, launched in 2025, has successfully facilitated the emotional reunion of a Taiwan resident with relatives on the Chinese mainland after decades of separation. This marks the first publicly confirmed case under the office's family reunification assistance program.

A spokesperson stated: 'Our Facebook service bridge has received over 1,200 inquiries since its establishment last year. We welcome all Taiwan compatriots seeking to reconnect with mainland relatives to submit requests through official channels.' The office emphasized its commitment to strengthening cross-strait people-to-people exchanges through technological solutions.

While the office declined to share specific details about the reunited family due to privacy concerns, they confirmed the individual traveled from Taipei to Shanghai earlier this month under the program's coordination. Analysts note this development comes as cross-strait cultural exchanges have increased by 18% year-on-year through 2025.
