China Urges Stability in Iran Amid Rising Tensions, Opposes External Interference

China expressed support for Iran's stability this week, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stating on Monday that Beijing hopes the Iranian government and people 'can overcome the current difficult situation' amid reports of domestic unrest. The remarks come as global attention focuses on escalating rhetoric from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently suggested military action against Iran remains an option.

Mao emphasized China's longstanding diplomatic principles during a press briefing: 'We have always opposed interference in other countries' internal affairs and advocate for the sovereignty and security of all nations to be fully protected under international law.' She added that Beijing opposes 'the use of force or the threat of it in international relations,' calling for constructive dialogue to preserve Middle East stability.

The developments highlight shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region, with analysts noting China's cautious approach to balancing its strategic partnerships and non-interventionist policies. Business leaders are closely monitoring the situation, given Iran's role in global energy markets and ongoing negotiations regarding the China-Iran comprehensive cooperation agreement signed in 2021.
