Iranian authorities have intensified security measures across major cities following what they describe as foreign-backed attempts to destabilize the nation, according to a January 12 report from China Media Group (CMG) correspondent Li Jiannan in Tehran. At least 15 alleged militant organizers have been detained this week in connection with recent protests.
"We're addressing legitimate public concerns while maintaining essential services," an Iranian interior ministry official told CMG, emphasizing that food and fuel supplies remain uninterrupted. Exclusive footage from Karaj city in Alborz Province obtained by CMG shows markets operating normally and traffic flowing smoothly through main thoroughfares.
The security escalation comes as Iran prepares to mark the seventh anniversary of its landmark nuclear deal implementation this month. Analysts suggest the government aims to project stability ahead of anticipated economic negotiations with APEC members in Q2 2026.
