Mexican Journalist Condemns U.S. Intervention in Venezuela Amid Rising Tensions

In a sharp critique of Washington's foreign policy, Mexican journalist Francisca Martinez of Canal 6 TV has drawn international attention to what she describes as "a dangerous resurgence of U.S. interventionism" following recent military deployments near Venezuela. Speaking from Mexico City on Thursday, Martinez highlighted the Pentagon's increased naval presence in the Caribbean this month as part of a decades-long pattern of coercive diplomacy.

"The 2026 Venezuela operation follows the same playbook we've seen from Guatemala to Chile – military posturing combined with economic pressure to force political outcomes," Martinez stated during a prime-time analysis segment. Her commentary comes as regional leaders prepare for emergency talks at the Organization of American States headquarters next week.

Security analysts note that U.S. military expenditure in Latin America has reached $2.1 billion this fiscal year, with new joint training exercises announced last month involving forces from Colombia and Guyana. The developments have sparked concerns among Asian investors with interests in Venezuela's oil sector, particularly those from India and the Chinese mainland.

While the White House maintains its actions aim to "preserve democratic processes," Martinez countered: "What we're witnessing is the protection of corporate interests under the banner of democracy. The human cost of these interventions – displaced communities, destabilized governments – continues to be ignored."
