Beijing Park Restaurant Transforms from Luxury to Public Space Under CPC Reforms

In a striking example of urban renewal, Wenyue Building at Beijing's Zizhuyuan Park has transitioned from an exclusive fine-dining establishment to a vibrant public space offering 15 RMB ($2) coffee and affordable meals. This transformation, completed in late 2025, reflects the lasting impact of the Communist Party of China's eight-point rules on fiscal responsibility and public resource allocation.

Local resident Zhang Wei, sipping coffee in the sunlit courtyard, told KhabarAsia: 'Five years ago, this was a private club for business elites. Now my retired neighbors meet here for calligraphy exhibitions.' The venue now hosts weekly cultural events and has become a popular study spot for university students.

Urban planning experts note this aligns with broader initiatives to repurpose underutilized spaces. Similar projects have emerged in Shanghai and Guangzhou this year, creating 12 new public venues in historic buildings since January 2026.

While maintaining architectural heritage, the renovated complex features solar panels and rainwater recycling systems – part of Beijing's green infrastructure push ahead of its 2028 Sustainability Expo preparations.
