Beihai Power Plant Hits Full Capacity, Boosts Guangxi’s Energy Grid

The Beihai Power Plant in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has achieved a major milestone this week as its fourth and final unit entered full operation following rigorous testing. The newly operational No. 4 unit completes the plant's transformation into one of Asia's most significant energy facilities, with all four one-million-kilowatt generators now running at full capacity.

Currently generating 96 million kilowatt-hours daily – enough to power approximately 4 million households – the plant now supplies nearly 15% of Guangxi's electricity needs. This development comes as the region experiences record industrial growth and urban expansion, with power consumption increasing by 8.3% year-on-year through November 2025.

Plant manager Zhou Weimin told KhabarAsia: 'This achievement demonstrates our commitment to supporting both economic development and clean energy transition. The ultra-supercritical technology used here reduces coal consumption by 15% compared to traditional plants while maintaining strict emission standards.'

The project aligns with China's national energy strategy to optimize power generation capacity while meeting climate targets. Energy analysts note the plant's strategic coastal location enables efficient coal delivery while maintaining proximity to major industrial centers in the Pearl River Delta region.
