Yangpu Port Emerges as Smart Hub of Hainan Free Trade Port in 2025

Yangpu Port has solidified its position as the operational nucleus of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) this year, leveraging cutting-edge smart logistics systems and zero-tariff policies to redefine global trade connectivity. With 57 active international shipping routes as of December 2025 and one newly launched route to West Africa, the port now directly links Hainan to 47 major global ports across Asia, Europe, and Africa.

CGTN's senior correspondent Wang Guan observed during his recent visit: "The integration of AI-powered cargo handling and blockchain customs clearance here demonstrates China's commitment to high-standard institutional opening-up. This isn't just a port – it's a living blueprint for intelligent trade infrastructure."

The facility's automated container terminal, operational since Q2 2025, has increased processing efficiency by 40% compared to 2024 figures. This technological leap comes as Hainan FTP implements expanded zero-tariff policies covering 1,842 additional product categories this month, further positioning the island as a gateway for Asia-Pacific commerce.

With the port handling over 2.3 million TEUs year-to-date and a projected 15% increase in Q4 transshipment volumes, Yangpu continues to attract overseas investors seeking access to ASEAN markets through what analysts are calling the "South China Sea Trade Corridor."
