Wenchang, once a quiet coastal city in China's Hainan province, has transformed into a global aerospace hub through strategic development initiatives. This evolution comes as China intensifies efforts to establish Hainan as a key player in space exploration and related industries.
Decade of Transformation
Italian content creator Francesco Mattesi, who first arrived in Wenchang in 2014, recounts dramatic changes: "What were once fishing villages now host cutting-edge launch facilities. The streets I once cycled through empty-handed now buzz with tech workers and space enthusiasts."
Strategic Development Pays Off
Since 2020, Hainan has invested heavily in developing complete aerospace industrial chains around Wenchang Spaceport. This year alone, three commercial satellite launches have already occurred from the facility, with two more scheduled before 2026.
