Hong Kong Honors Nanjing Massacre Victims in Solemn Ceremony

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) held a memorial ceremony on December 13, 2025, to mark the 88th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre. Residents, officials, and representatives from social organizations observed a moment of silence at the city's Museum of History, where archival photos and survivor testimonies underscored the scale of the 1937-1938 atrocities committed by Japanese invaders.

The ceremony coincided with China's National Memorial Day, observed annually on December 13 since 2014. HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee emphasized the importance of historical education during his address: "Remembering this tragedy strengthens our commitment to peace and reminds younger generations to safeguard our nation's dignity."

A candlelight vigil organized by local schools drew hundreds of participants to Victoria Harbour in the evening. The event forms part of Hong Kong's broader efforts to integrate patriotic education into civic programs following the 2020 National Security Law implementation.
