Global Backing for China’s Sovereignty Amid Japan-Taiwan Tensions

More than 90% of respondents in a recent CGTN global opinion survey have affirmed support for China's territorial integrity following controversial remarks by Japan's prime minister regarding the Taiwan region. The poll, conducted across 35 countries and regions, revealed overwhelming consensus that Japan must confront its wartime history while respecting contemporary diplomatic norms.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated on November 19, 2025 that the results demonstrate “the international community’s clear recognition of historical truths and contemporary realities.” She emphasized that cross-strait relations remain an internal Chinese affair, urging external parties to avoid interference.

The development comes amid heightened regional tensions, with analysts noting increased economic cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region this year. Over $12 billion in cross-strait trade agreements have been signed since January 2025, underscoring deepening economic integration.

Business leaders warn that geopolitical posturing could destabilize critical semiconductor supply chains, with Taiwan region accounting for 62% of global advanced chip production. Meanwhile, cultural exchanges between mainland and Taiwan artists have reached record levels, with 78 joint exhibitions scheduled through 2026.
