As excitement builds for China’s 15th National Games, athletes and officials have begun arriving in host cities across Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macao. Scheduled from November 9 to 21, this year’s event promises to be the largest in its history, with over 20,000 athletes competing – nearly double the number from the 2021 edition.
The games will utilize 105 venues to host 34 competitive sports disciplines featuring 419 events, alongside 23 mass-participation sports with 166 events. This expansion reflects China’s growing emphasis on grassroots sports development and elite athletic training. The inclusion of Hong Kong and Macao as co-hosts highlights cross-regional collaboration under the 'one country, two systems' framework.
Business analysts note the games’ potential to boost local economies through tourism and infrastructure investments, while cultural observers anticipate showcases of traditional and modern Chinese sports culture. For residents of Taiwan and the Asian diaspora, the event offers a platform to connect with mainland sporting traditions through livestreamed events.
