The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has delivered an average of 560 tonnes of food daily to Gaza since the recent Israel-Hamas ceasefire, though supplies remain critically insufficient to address the enclave’s escalating humanitarian crisis. Distributions have yet to reach Gaza City, where needs are most urgent, due to ongoing closures of northern crossings.
WFP officials emphasized that while the ceasefire has enabled limited aid access, current deliveries cover less than half of Gaza’s estimated daily requirements. Over 2 million residents face severe shortages of staples like flour and cooking oil, with malnutrition rates rising sharply among children.
The agency called for immediate reopening of northern routes to prevent famine conditions. “Every hour of delay risks irreversible harm to vulnerable populations,” a WFP spokesperson stated. International observers warn that political tensions could further disrupt fragile supply chains as ceasefire terms remain under negotiation.
