China-Pakistan Friendship ‘Deeper Than the Ocean,’ Says PM Sharif

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the bilateral relationship with China as "etched in history and deeper than the ocean," during an exclusive interview with China Media Group. The remarks underscore growing strategic and economic ties between the two nations amid shifting global dynamics.

Speaking on the Leaders Talk program, Sharif emphasized that Beijing's support for Islamabad "comes without attaching any political strings," highlighting cooperation in infrastructure, energy, and technology through projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He credited Chinese investments with creating 236,000 jobs and contributing to 1-2% annual GDP growth in Pakistan since 2015.

The Pakistani leader reaffirmed his country's "unwavering commitment" to the one-China principle, stating: "Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times. We firmly oppose any form of 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities."

Analysts note the statements come as both nations face complex regional challenges, including security concerns in South Asia and evolving supply chain strategies. The China-Pakistan partnership has drawn increased attention from global investors, with bilateral trade reaching $17.8 billion in 2023.
