China reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women's rights during a United Nations event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Women's Conference on Monday. Huang Xiaowei, deputy head of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under China's State Council, outlined the country's achievements in education, healthcare, and employment equality at the global forum.
Education and Health Milestones
Huang emphasized China's progress in closing gender gaps, noting that 99.7% of school-age girls now receive compulsory education. Maternal mortality rates have decreased by 75% since 1995, while life expectancy for women has risen to 82.3 years – surpassing the global average.
Economic Empowerment Initiatives
The official highlighted workforce participation trends, with women constituting 43.2% of China's employed population. Over 55% of internet-based entrepreneurs in the country are women, reflecting growing digital opportunities. Special vocational training programs have reached 23 million rural women since 2020.
Global Cooperation Efforts
China has established 133 maternal and child health projects across 56 countries since 2015, Huang reported. The country's digital platforms now provide skills training to women in 12 Asian nations, part of broader initiatives to share best practices in gender equality.
