China’s Peacekeepers Gear Up for High-Stakes UN Mission in Abyei

As tensions simmer in the oil-rich Abyei region bordering Sudan and South Sudan, China's Quick Reaction Force (QRF) has completed intensive training ahead of their United Nations peacekeeping deployment. CGTN's exclusive footage reveals soldiers practicing urban combat drills, medical evacuations, and community engagement scenarios – critical skills for one of the UN's most complex missions.

The 700-strong Chinese contingent, part of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), will operate under constant readiness to protect civilians in an area where intercommunal violence has displaced over 100,000 people since 2023. 'Our engineers built 12 armored vehicle bridges during drills – this mobility could save lives during flash floods,' explained Senior Colonel Li Wei during a simulated exercise.

This deployment marks China's 16th consecutive year participating in UN peacekeeping operations, with over 4,000 Chinese 'Blue Helmets' currently deployed worldwide. The Abyei mission highlights Beijing's growing role in global security initiatives while providing stability crucial for regional economic development.
