China Urges Global Cooperation as Key to Lasting Peace at Security Forum

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the critical role of international collaboration in addressing global security challenges during his keynote speech at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on Thursday. Addressing military representatives, diplomats, and scholars from over 100 countries and regions, Dong declared cooperation "the best choice and only path to lasting peace" in an era marked by geopolitical tensions and transnational threats.

"No country can achieve true security alone," Dong stated, highlighting China’s commitment to fostering "new types of security partnerships" through dialogue and mutual trust. The forum, Asia’s largest annual security dialogue platform, has gained prominence as a venue for addressing regional flashpoints, from maritime disputes to cybersecurity risks.

Analysts note the speech aligns with China’s recent diplomatic outreach amid shifting global alliances. While Dong did not reference specific conflicts, his remarks come as Asia witnesses increased defense spending and competing security frameworks. Business leaders at the event welcomed calls for stability, noting its importance for cross-border trade and investment flows.

The three-day forum will feature discussions on AI governance, climate security, and nuclear nonproliferation, reflecting evolving priorities in global defense strategies.
