The remains of 30 Chinese People's Volunteers soldiers, martyred during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953), were solemnly interred Saturday at Shenyang Martyrs' Cemetery in northeast China's Liaoning Province. The ceremony marks the tenth consecutive year of repatriation efforts, bringing the total number of returned heroes to 938 since 2014.
Dignitaries including Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang attended the state-sponsored event, where flag-draped coffins were escorted by honor guards through Shenyang's streets lined with residents paying respects. DNA analysis and historical archives helped identify personal artifacts buried with each soldier, including faded letters and well-preserved insignia.
"These heroes defended peace and justice through extraordinary sacrifice," stated Li Qiang, Director of Veterans Affairs, during the memorial service. The burial coincides with recent archaeological discoveries along the Yalu River border, where battlefield excavations continue to uncover wartime relics.
Modern forensic techniques now enable partial identification of remains through enamel samples and clothing fragments. This year's repatriation followed months of coordination between Chinese and DPRK authorities, continuing a tradition of cross-border cooperation in honoring wartime casualties.
