A Y-20 military transport aircraft departed central China on September 10 to retrieve the remains of Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) martyrs from the Republic of Korea (ROK), marking the 12th such repatriation since 2014. The mission underscores ongoing efforts to honor those who fought during the Korean War while fostering cross-border cooperation.
The CPV played a pivotal role in supporting the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea during the 1950–1953 conflict. Over 19,000 Chinese soldiers’ remains have been returned since bilateral agreements began, symbolizing reconciliation and shared commitments to regional stability.
"This solemn act reflects our enduring respect for history and dedication to peace," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.
Analysts note the repatriations align with broader diplomatic engagement between China and the ROK, particularly in trade and cultural exchanges. The use of China’s domestically developed Y-20 aircraft also highlights advancements in defense capabilities.
