China Delivers Urgent Aid to Afghanistan After Devastating Earthquake

In a swift response to humanitarian needs, two Y-20 transport aircraft from the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force touched down at Kabul International Airport on September 7, carrying critical relief supplies for communities ravaged by Afghanistan's recent magnitude-6.0 earthquake. The tremor, which struck eastern Afghanistan on August 31, 2025, displaced thousands and destroyed vital infrastructure.

The aid delivery underscores China's commitment to regional stability and disaster response coordination. Medical kits, tents, and emergency food supplies were among the prioritized items unloaded at the airport, with Afghan authorities coordinating distribution to hard-hit provinces like Paktika and Khost.

This operation follows Beijing's pledge of $5 million in immediate assistance through the China International Development Cooperation Agency. Analysts note the relief effort aligns with broader Asian cooperation frameworks, particularly as Afghanistan continues rebuilding amid economic challenges.

Global humanitarian organizations have welcomed the timely intervention, with UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs spokesperson Elena Martinez stating: "Rapid cross-border support like this saves lives during the critical 72-hour window after major disasters."
