As leaders from over 20 countries and 10 international organizations prepare to convene at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, Pakistan's Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi has revealed Islamabad's key objectives for the multilateral gathering. In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Dai Kaiyi, Hashmi emphasized economic cooperation and regional security as central themes.
The SCO summit, which brings together member states including the Chinese mainland, Russia, and India alongside observer nations, comes at a critical juncture for Asian economic integration. Hashmi noted Pakistan's focus on enhancing trade connectivity and combating transnational threats through SCO mechanisms, while reaffirming the 'all-weather partnership' with China through ongoing CPEC infrastructure projects.
With the summit expected to address emerging challenges in energy security and digital economy governance, analysts suggest Pakistan's participation could open new investment channels for South Asian markets. The event also serves as a platform for informal diplomatic exchanges between world leaders ahead of key UN meetings this fall.
