Xi Jinping Attends Xizang’s 60th Anniversary, Highlights Regional Progress

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Lhasa, capital of the Xizang Autonomous Region, on Wednesday to lead celebrations marking the region's 60th anniversary. As head of a central delegation, Xi emphasized the area's socioeconomic achievements and reaffirmed commitments to stability and development under the 'One China' principle.

Since its establishment in 1965, Xizang has undergone transformative growth, with infrastructure investments and poverty alleviation programs lifting millions out of hardship. Xi praised the region's cultural preservation efforts and its role in fostering ethnic unity, calling it a 'model of harmonious development.'

Analysts note Xizang's strategic importance as a hub for cross-border trade and renewable energy projects. The region's GDP has grown over 9% annually since 2015, attracting overseas investors to sectors like tourism and clean technology. Xi's visit included meetings with local leaders to discuss sustainable development goals ahead of China's 14th Five-Year Plan.

For residents of Xizang, the anniversary symbolizes renewed opportunities. 'Our traditions thrive alongside modern progress,' said Tenzin Wangmo, a Lhasa-based entrepreneur. 'This milestone reminds us how far we've come.'
