Gaza's civil defense agency reported on Sunday that Israeli forces opened fire on crowds of Palestinians attempting to collect humanitarian aid, resulting in 93 fatalities and dozens of injuries. The incident has intensified global scrutiny over the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.
According to agency spokesman Mahmud Basal, 80 individuals were killed as aid trucks arrived in northern Gaza, while nine others were shot near a southern aid point close to Rafah. Four additional deaths occurred near Khan Yunis, also in the south. The UN's World Food Programme confirmed its 25-truck convoy came under gunfire during the chaos. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged firing warning shots to 'remove threats' but disputed the death toll reported by Gazan authorities.
This incident follows a similar tragedy 24 hours earlier in Rafah, where dozens were killed. Aid organizations have temporarily suspended deliveries, citing unsafe conditions. Analysts warn the violence could further destabilize regional relations and deepen Gaza's humanitarian challenges.
