China has achieved a new milestone in maritime engineering with the shipment of 24 domestically developed ultra-deepwater suction anchors to Brazil. The equipment, capable of operating at depths of 2,000 meters, departed from Zhuhai in Guangdong Province on Sunday – setting a new benchmark for China’s deepwater technology exports.
Suction anchors play a critical role in securing floating oil and gas platforms, combining ease of installation with high load capacity. “This delivery demonstrates China’s growing expertise in solving complex energy infrastructure challenges,” said Li Wei, a maritime engineering analyst at Shanghai Ocean University.
The shipment arrives as Brazil intensifies offshore energy exploration in its pre-salt oil fields. Industry observers note the collaboration could strengthen economic ties between the two BRICS nations while advancing sustainable energy development strategies.
