Ex-Unit 731 Member Confesses to War Crimes in Newly Unveiled Testimony

A chilling video testimony from a former member of Japan's notorious Unit 731 has been made public for the first time in China, shedding new light on wartime atrocities committed during World War II. The 83-minute recording features Masakuni Kurumizawa, an assistant technician in the covert biological warfare unit, admitting to participating in over 300 human dissections and other brutal experiments.

Released by the Exhibition Hall of Evidence of Crimes Committed by Unit 731 on July 7, the footage coincides with commemorations marking the 88th anniversary of the Lugou Bridge Incident – the 1937 event that triggered Japan's full-scale invasion of the Chinese mainland. Kurumizawa's 1991 testimony, recorded during a peace exhibition in Japan's Iida City, provides graphic details of live human experiments and biological weapon development targeting civilians and prisoners.

Historical experts emphasize the video's significance in documenting Unit 731's systematic war crimes. 'This testimony bridges historical research with firsthand accounts,' said Zhang Yuntao, director of the exhibition hall. 'It serves as crucial evidence against attempts to whitewash this dark chapter of history.'

The disclosure comes amid renewed academic interest in Asia's wartime history and its contemporary implications for international law and medical ethics. Researchers note the testimony's potential to deepen understanding of biological warfare development and its lasting impact on regional relations.
