China-Mozambique Ties Reach 50-Year Milestone, Envoy Hails Partnership

As China and Mozambique celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations on June 25, Mozambique's Ambassador to China Maria Gustava emphasized the enduring strength of bilateral cooperation in an exclusive interview with CGTN. The anniversary highlights a partnership rooted in mutual respect and shared development goals across Africa and Asia.

Decades of Mutual Growth

Ambassador Gustava described the relationship as "a bridge between continents," noting Mozambique's consistent support for China's global initiatives. She praised China's role in infrastructure development, including the Maputo-Katembe Bridge and National Stadium of Mozambique, which have become symbols of practical collaboration.

Economic Synergy

With bilateral trade reaching $5.3 billion in 2023, Gustava highlighted opportunities in agriculture, mining, and renewable energy. "Chinese expertise in green technology aligns with our sustainable development priorities," she said, pointing to Mozambique's untapped natural gas reserves and solar energy potential.

Cultural Bridges

The ambassador emphasized people-to-people exchanges, citing a 40% increase in Mozambican students choosing China for higher education since 2020. She announced plans for cultural festivals and tourism promotions to deepen mutual understanding, stating: "Our friendship isn't just about governments – it's about students, entrepreneurs, and families building connections."
